Self-Check-in and Key Handover for Accommodation

In hotels, holiday rentals and hostels, booking, access and key handover usually run on separate systems — and end at a staffed reception. TIKI SHARE connects them: the booking creates the access, the access creates the handover.

Applications in accommodation operations

  • Check-in around the clock, even for late arrivals and an unstaffed reception.
  • Key and keycard handover per booking instead of a key box with a fixed code.
  • Luggage compartments for the hours between check-out and onward travel.
  • Issuing rental items such as bike locks, sports gear or beach equipment.
  • Time-limited access for cleaning, trades and external service providers.

Operating without reception hours

The bottleneck is rarely the room, it is the handover: if guests can only check in from 3 pm to 6 pm, bookings are lost and staff are tied to hours that hardly pay off.

Access via PIN, booking link or RFID card decouples arrival from presence at the front desk. Further reading is available in the blog post on self-check-in for hotels and holiday rentals and in the self-check-in glossary entry.

Integration with existing systems

Booking and property management systems connect via the REST API. Each booking automatically produces an access code whose validity is tied to the stay period.

If no booking system is in place yet, the TIKI SHARE booking system can be used directly – booking and access then come from one platform.

Making utilisation visible

How many luggage compartments are actually needed on a Saturday? How often are rental items collected, and when? The platform logs every use and makes visible what is otherwise estimated – a basis for decisions about additional compartments, sites or services.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do guests need an app to check in?

No. Access works via PIN, booking link or RFID card. An app is optional, not a requirement.

Can it connect to our booking system?

Yes. Via the REST API each booking creates an authorisation whose validity is tied exactly to the stay period – no manual setup, no code that keeps working after departure.

What happens if the internet connection drops?

The unit continues to operate locally. Transactions are buffered and synchronised once the connection is restored.
