IDoc (Intermediate Document) – Definition, ORDRSP and DESADV
IDoc (Intermediate Document) is the standardised SAP data format for the electronic exchange of business documents between SAP systems and external applications – e.g. order confirmations (ORDRSP) and dispatch advices (DESADV).
How an IDoc Is Structured
An IDoc consists of a control record (sender, receiver, message type), data records (the actual business data in segments) and status records (processing log).
The message type defines the purpose – e.g. ORDERS (order), ORDRSP (order confirmation), DESADV (dispatch advice), INVOIC (invoice).
ORDRSP and DESADV in Practice
- ORDRSP: the supplier confirms an order incl. quantities, prices and delivery date
- DESADV: advance notification of what a delivery actually contains – basis for automated goods receipt
- INVOIC: electronic invoice that flows directly into accounts payable
IDoc Integration with Smart Lockers
With TIKI SHARE, dispensing and return events can be posted back to SAP via IDoc – e.g. automatic stock booking when a tool is taken out. That closes the loop from SAP order through locker dispensing to inventory management, end-to-end digital.
